A dyslexia-friendly learning app for ages 4 to 11
Facts and prices checked on 26 September 2026.
Many children with dyslexia find reading on a screen tiring. WonderPath has reader-friendly settings you choose for each child, short steps and read-aloud on lesson text. This page explains what those settings are, what the research says about them, and what no app can do.
What WonderPath offers
- A reader-friendly mode that uses Lexend, a font designed for readability, with wider letter, word and line spacing, and a choice of background colours.
- Read aloud on lesson text.
- Short steps, one idea at a time.
- A helper that uses shorter sentences and simpler words when the child's profile says so.
- Settings kept per child, so a sibling can have a different look.
You choose these settings. We never infer a diagnosis or a need from how a child uses the app, and none of these settings is a treatment.
What the research says
Fonts and spacing are worth offering as choices, but the evidence is modest. A small 2017 experiment found that a specialist dyslexia font (OpenDyslexic) did not improve reading speed or accuracy compared with a common font. WonderPath uses Lexend, which is designed for readability rather than being a specialist dyslexia font, and we offer it as a comfort choice. Another 2017 study found that increased letter spacing reduced errors in some conditions for children with dyslexia, but did not raise reading rate. Neither is a cure. What has strong evidence for early reading is explicit, systematic phonics taught by an adult, which the Education Endowment Foundation rates highly.
What no app can do
- Diagnose dyslexia, or replace an assessment by a specialist teacher or psychologist.
- Replace structured literacy teaching or the support your school's SENCo can arrange, including under an EHCP.
- Guarantee progress. We have no published results yet.
WonderPath is in public beta. Lessons are written by AI and teacher review is being set up, so please use it alongside, not instead of, the help your child already has, and tell us if a setting is not working for your child.
Common questions
Is there a dyslexia font in WonderPath?
Reader-friendly mode uses Lexend, a font designed for readability, with wider spacing and background colour choices. They are display preferences, not a treatment, and we do not use a specialist dyslexia font.
Does WonderPath diagnose dyslexia?
No. It never diagnoses or infers a need. If you are worried, speak to your child's school SENCo or your GP.
Can my child use WonderPath if they have an EHCP?
Yes, as a companion to the support in the plan. It does not replace it.
